About the Centre for Contemporary Arts

CCA provides a platform for exciting and inspiring cutting edge contemporary visual art, performance, film, music, spoken word and other events. CCA is a hub of experimental creative activity that engages with individuals and communities, contributing to the vibrancy and vitality of cultural life in Glasgow and beyond.

CCA curates six major exhibitions a year, showing a wide range of Scottish and international contemporary art, as well as being home to Intermedia Gallery for emerging artists. Fast developing a reputation for world class improvised, experimental and electronic music, CCA also screens independent short, foreign and documentary films rarely presented in Scotland, through film strands Beta Movement and Dark Visions. Entrance to CCA exhibitions and many events is free.

Always experimenting, challenging, asking questions and proposing ideas we have connected a diverse range of new and established artists and communities in Scotland with artists and communities across the world. Committed to supporting the development of new work, CCA offers a programme of artist residencies providing studio space and mentoring support. Take a look at our Creative Lab residencies and, if you’re an artist, keep an eye on our Opportunities for Arts Practitioners page for forthcoming deadlines.

Recently, we have been developing a responsive, open source approach to programming. This means we work with a growing number of collaborative partners and individuals to whom we often offer residencies in the building or the possibility of proposing their own programme in our various spaces. At the heart of all of activities remains the desire to work with artists, generate new projects and present them to the widest possible audience.

CCA also plays host to a number of other cultural and artistic organisations. We call these our Cultural Tenants. Cultural Tenants include Camcorder Guerillas; Cryptic; Electron Club; MAP Magazine; Paragon Ensemble; Playwrights’ Studio Scotland; Scottish Ensemble; Scottish Writers’ Centre; Space 11, including Random Accomplice & Vox Motus; The List; University of the West of Scotland; Vanishing Point and Voice Business.

All of these activities ensure that CCA, through its programme, practise and status as a hub for artistic activity, is a cultural centre for the city.

Join us at CCA to experience our eclectic, vibrant and inspiring programme of visual art, performance, music and film. Come along and engage with the artistic community or simply soak up the creative environment over a coffee or cold beer. Free wi-fi is available in the courtyard café bar and Aye-Aye Books in the foyer space stocks a selection of art books for your perusal.
