CCA is opening up to a host of organisations across the city, increasing its activity and striving to create a new sense of ownership of the building among the public and the arts community. CCA’s open day on 26th August is designed to invite people in and let them know about some of the recent developments in the building and to launch a new monthly book fair.

Francis McKee, Interim Director, CCA

Included on the day will be guided tours of the building, exhibition talks, a book fair, book launches, Intermedia Gallery, Free Kids Workshop Demonstrations, Film Screenings, DJs in the CCA Bar and Fine food from the CCA Café. Come along fill in our survey and you will go into the draw to win a night's accomodation at CITY INN, Glasgow, including breakfast and dinner!

CCA Book Fair
Time: 12 - 4 PM Space: CCA 5
CCA will be launching a new monthly book fair. The book fair pulls together a series of alternative and independent publishers from Scotland and further afield, aimed at anyone interested in contemporary art, design, architecture or new ideas. There will also be two book launches and talks on that day – one by artist Martine Myrup and another by Canadian artist Sylvie Grace Borda who has been working on an architectural survey of modernist East Kilbride (see www.eknewtown.com). There will be stands at the book fair from AK Press, Transmission, Tramway, CCA, Dot Dot Dot, Black Dogs, The One O’Clock Gun periodical, Zug, Something Haptic, Cultural Enterprise Organisation, and others. There will also be a unique chance to see several of Marcel Dzama’s original sketchbooks, on display for that day only.

Peculiar Flight - Book Launch
Time: 7PM Space: Clubroom
Also being launched on the day will be Martine Myrup’s latest book, Peculiar Flight. The book is inspired by work Myrup developed during a 14 week residency at Hospitalfield. Peculiar Flight will be available to purchase at the book fair and Martine Myrup will be presenting an artists talk at 7pm.

EK MODERNISM - Book Launch - Sylvia Grace Borda
Time:
5PM Space: Clubroom
The artist book project 'EK MODERNISM' represents a contemporary architectural record of East Kilbride, Scotland's 'First New Town'. It's also a chronicle about Modernist utopian vision's related to livability, sustainability and community coherence. However the original plan for the Town's foundation has since been linked to Modernist failuresm, particularly as the city as outgrows this vision. As a consequence, the Town's Modernist heritage is under threat and buildings from the period, such as public schools, are being altered, demolished, or sold in favour of new urban development.

Intermedia Gallery

Time: 12 - 4 PM Space: Intermedia Gallery (formerly known as CCA6)
CCA is proud to announce a new partnership with Intermedia. Intermedia is a scheme run by Glasgow City Council, which provides a gallery space independent of all other arts organisations in the city. Intermedia's last incarnation in King Street ended in December 2005 due to the ongoing capital development of arts premises there. Although now based in CCA, Intermedia will retain its independence and autonomy.

Come along on Aug 26th to see the new space and pick up information on the next deadline for applications (Friday 29th September).

The electron club
The electron club, who launch their new space at CCA in July will also be getting involved. The Electron Club is a space where people interested in things like free open source software, circuit bending, hardware hacking, computer recycling, streaming, audio and video editing, green technologies, and amateur radio can meet, use equipment, and share and disseminate their skills and ideas. All are welcome.

As part of the CCA Open Day the space will be open to the public, for details of what will be happening there on the day please check the Electron Club website: www.electronclub.org

More events to be announced soon so keep checking back
