Fri 30 November 2018

GIOfest XI International Festival of Improvisation

Day Two of our festival features a a new collaboration with Ceol ‘s Craic, the innovative contemporary Gaelic music project.

Before that, the concerts will begin with a set from our visitors from Australia: Peter Knight and Aviva Endean. Aviva is over on an artist in residence programme which also has GIO members working in Australia.

The Ceol's Craic feature will include three sets. Renowned Gaelic singer and leading authority on pibroch, Margaret Stewart, will present Gaelic songs relating to the music of the great Highland bagpipe. Guests including Alasdair Whyte, Ross Whyte, Ailie Robertson and Calabrian saxophone & bagpipe player Christian Ferlaino will use these songs as a springboard for improvisation and collaboration with GIO.
