Present Futures Alex Millar | Holy Motor

Sun 9 June 2019

Holy Motor

Holy Motor is an eco-poetic performance blending myth and machine to discover the spiritual di-mension to human and non-human interaction. Memories of art events in Glasgow, imagined technological futures, and a praying mantis, play host to the becoming-other of the artist’s body - its vital consumptions and verbal emissions.

Following an open call for proposals Present Futures offered two micro bursaries to emerging art-ists Annie Lowry Thomas & Anna Danielwicz and Alex Millar to support their involvement and contribution to the 2019 edition of the festival.

Alex Millar is a Scottish artist working with sculpture, performance and film. His recent work is in-spired by theories of the uncanny, and the combination of spiritual and technological modes of being, as an ecological practice. Past exhibitions and performances include Gold Head Yellow Dancer, a solo exhibition at Dornoch St Project Space in 2018, and Everyday Dionysus, a performance for ‘Folly’, at David Dale in 2017. He is currently a committee member at Market Gallery, an artist-run, contemporary visual art space in the east end of Glasgow
