Training for Transformation UK The Educator has the Duty of not Being Neutral - Launch Party

Mon 19 August 2019

LET THE FREEDOM RING mmkw

The opening night party launching Training for Transformation - For People With People UK 2019 courses, is led by globally acclaimed South African Director of Training for Transformation Ntombi Nyathi. Nyathi will lead a discussion on the role of radical education for personal and social transformation to overcome economic, social, racial and spiritual apartheid today. The line-up also includes leading activists Cathy McCormack, Maria Latumahina, Alessandro Marini, dan glass with special guest performers Abi Normal, genre spanning acoustic folk angry fanny music punk and rebel tunes, Mark McGhee (Girobabies, Jackal Trades, You Call That Radio?) and Empress with her newest release Steg G – Another Day Another Way.

At the Sharp End of the Knife is a story that goes with Glaswegian Cathy McCormack into the Township heartlands of Alexandra, Soweto, Khaylitsha, Manenburg in South Africa, and Easterhouse, Scotland…she may be dodging the bullets, but finds energy and inspiration in the people she meets as she makes intriguing parallels with their lives, and her own back in Glasgow’s infamous Easterhouse housing project.

There will also be a special performance from Abi Normal… is not normal. Genre spanning acoustic folk angry fanny music punk and rebel tunes, she writes and performs on guitar and voice, and likes a good story. She also composes music for the poetry of Victoria McNulty, as seen in Confessionals and, coming soon, Exiles (Dec '19). Find her at Fail Better or propping up a karaoke bar. abinormalmusic.bandcamp.com.

Training for Transformation (TfT) is an education programme that provides activists, community development workers, artists, freedom fighters and educators with the tools, skills and methodology to mobilise and organise self-mobilised communities to fight for justice and equality. TfT has nourished the belly of movements for justice all over the world. Inspired by popular educator founder Paolo Freire, Sally Timmel and Anne Hope, in collaboration with the late great Steve Biko, founder of the Black Consciousness Movement, initiated Training for Transformation to empower communities to confront Apartheid, and since then, has inspired activists and communities all over the world.
