The Art and Science of Electronic Music

Sat 8 February — Sun 9 February 2020

Electronic 800 2nli

Join DJ & Producer, Peter Sliwinski (Echoplex, Post Scriptum) as he deconstructs his process, along with synth designer Rob Spencer (GMSN!, Equinox), for a weekend of electronic music production workshops.

Peter takes you inside the mind of an experienced DJ and Producer, while Rob will literally take you right inside your gear. Together we will journey through the art and science of Techno music.

Programme:

Day 1: The Electron Club: Talks and presentations on sound design, synthesis techniques and experimentation, followed by a collective jamming session, where the two experts will guide you through how to get the most out of your synth, drum machine or controller. As we progress through the day motifs, hooks, grooves and phrase will begin to form. The day will round off with capturing these elements.

Evening Session. The Club. The Sound System. The Crowd. The most important lessons are learnt on the dancefloor. During the evening session Echoplex will give you an incredible insight into the mind of a live techno artist, taking the theory and applying it in a club environment. This is an amazingly powerful session, where the catchy grooves and melody from the day will crystallise in your mind into fully formed tracks.

Day 2 is all about Structure, Form, Arrangement, Mix Down. Taking the raw musical materials and crafting them into tunes ready to be sent away for mastering. Peter and Rob will be on hand to guide you through the parts of the process, ready to knock through any walls you may have previously encountered.
