Set underneath the hazy glow of Sofia’s neon-lit sky, Directions follows a series of taxi drivers over a single evening to illustrate a multi-faceted critique on Bulgarian society. A tragic incident that makes national headlines sparks a debate on talk-radio, with new perspectives from each passenger on each journey, creating a poignant and painful document of a society that’s losing hope. Writer/director Stephan Komandarev’s powerful film paints a vivid portrait of a contemporary society in turmoil, dramatising the joy, pain and woe through intense single takes, placing the viewer directly in the passenger seat.
