Autumn at CCA

In August CCA shared a public apology and outlined a series of commitments to rebuild trust, strengthen governance, and ensure lasting organisational change. These commitments focused on accountability, inclusion, and open communication with our communities, staff, artists, and partners.

We want to say a big thank you to all those who have shown us support, patience and understanding as we work through these steps, and continue to share updates. Below is a summary of the key commitments and the actions that have been completed or are currently underway.

1. Rebuilding and Reopening

Commitment:
To reopen the CCA building safely, rebuild confidence, and re-engage audiences and partners through a phased programme of events and community collaboration.

Progress:

  • The CCA reopened to the public w/c 25 August and has returned to hosting a growing programme of art, film, music, and community events.

  • CCA has resumed monthly newsletters and promotions to reconnect with audiences and partners.

  • Engagement with partners to support the rebuilding of CCA’s collaborative cultural ecosystem.

2. Strengthening Governance and Leadership

Commitment:
To recruit permanent leadership and a refreshed Board structure, including a new Chair, to guide CCA through the next phase of recovery and renewal.

Progress:

  • Finance Manager appointed – Recruitment completed; new Finance Manager joined this month.

  • Board Chair recruitment launched – ongoing.

  • Board member recruitment live – Open call for new trustees, closing 10 November.

  • Future leadership recruitment – Recruitment for a permanent Director/CEO role will begin following board appointments in December, ensuring leadership reflects the refreshed governance structure.

3. Transparency and Inclusive Decision-Making

Commitment:
To work with external partners and funders to ensure that governance and leadership processes are transparent and inclusive.

Progress:

  • CCA is working closely with its funders to ensure recruitment processes meet best practice in transparency, representation, and accountability.

  • All Board applications will be scored using criteria informed by staff input, ensuring staff voices are embedded in the decision-making process.

  • Updates on key steps (e.g. recruitment launches and deadlines) are shared publicly through the CCA website and newsletters.

4. Listening and Internal Engagement

Commitment:
To engage staff, partners, and communities in meaningful dialogue and ensure CCA’s future leadership reflects its principles and values.

Progress:

  • Staff focus groups have been held to gather feedback and recommendations on organisational change, board recruitment, and internal communication.

  • CCA management and board continue to meet regularly to implement recommendations and review progress against commitments.

  • Staff consultation directly informed the board recruitment process and criteria.

  • Internal updates with all CCA staff have been improved and will continue going forward.

5. Ethical Review and Policy Development

Commitment:
To review and strengthen ethical policies, including fundraising, programming, and partnerships, ensuring that all future decisions are principled, transparent, and sustainable.

Progress:

  • The third eye bar has completed and implemented an ethical review of its product sourcing and supplier relationships. We are pleased to share that the bar now works exclusively with suppliers whose products reflect our shared values of fairness, sustainability, and community.

  • There will be a review of CCA’s organisational values with input from staff and the new board.

  • CCA will continue to explore new ways to strengthen our approach to ethical policy and fundraising, to be advanced by the incoming board and new leadership.

6. Continuing Dialogue and Accountability

Commitment:
To rebuild relationships with community groups, artists, and campaigners through transparent dialogue and a long-term commitment to listening and repair.

Progress:

  • CCA continues to engage in ongoing correspondence and dialogue with advocacy groups.

  • We will attend facilitated talks with sector representatives in the coming weeks, ensuring space for collective discussion and accountability.

  • Updates on our progress will continue to be shared openly.

Next Steps

  • Complete recruitment of new Chair and Board members (October–November recruitment). New trustees to be appointed start of December.

  • Begin recruitment for permanent leadership (Commencing December 2025).

  • Advance values, policy review and governance updates with new board input (Winter 25–Spring 26).

  • Continue staff and partner engagement with regular updates and consultation.
