Schools and Young People Programme

Schools and Young People Programme

CCA has introduced a new Schools and Young People Programme, that aims to improve access to contemporary art and open conversations around contemporary issues.

The programme engages primary and secondary school pupils as well as hosting a variety of drop-in workshops across the year.

If you are interested in collaborating or have any questions please contact our Schools and Young People Coordinator, Sam Harley, sam@cca-glasgow.com.

The programme is fully funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (Glasgow Communities and Place Fund).

Check out what we have been up to on the Schools and Young People Blog.

Learning Space

Visit our Learning Space, open Tuesday - Saturday, 11am - 4pm. Showcase your creations on our gallery wall, get lost in a book from our library shelves or build something with building blocks and magnets.

Primary Schools

Glasgow City Council primary schools can participate in a series of three creative workshops designed to develop pupils’ self-expression, collaboration and making skills. The programme will encourage the pupils to explore current social topics through the lens of art and making. Pupils will have the opportunity to experiment with new ways of making.

If you are a Glasgow City Council primary school, you should have received an invitation to take part in the programme. Please contact sam@cca-glasgow.com if you would like to participate in the project.

Secondary Schools

The CCA offers free creative learning tours and workshops for Glasgow Council secondary schools.

You can book a school trip between August and December 2024.

The offer has been designed specifically to align with the expectations of the Curriculum for Excellence, ensuring that your pupils have an enriching learning experience.

We want to give young people the opportunity to engage with contemporary art and issues while developing their confidence, critical analysis and collaboration skills. This is an exciting opportunity for your pupils to engage first-hand with contemporary art and understand the processes and meanings behind the work. Taking inspiration from the exhibitions, your pupils can take part in a creative workshop, developing their critical thinking and making skills. All costs (including public transport and materials) are completely funded.

School trips are available on Mondays and Thursdays during the exhibition period. Groups of up to 20 can book a tour or a tour and workshop to the CCA. Please click here to book your secondary school trip to the CCA.

Art has the power to make connections with our current social and political landscape, therefore we welcome bookings from all subjects, especially Art & Design, History and Modern Studies.

Our Information Pack has further information about our school trip offer.

Yearly Events

Led by artist facilitators these hands-on sessions encourage critical thinking and artistic exploration. Materials are provided, all we ask is that your child wears old clothes that can get messy. And why not enjoy a coffee and pastry in the CCA cafe, while your child gets creative?

Workshops are two hours long and completely free to attend.

Don’t worry if you have a younger child, we will have free resources in our other public spaces during the workshop times.

If you have difficulty getting to the CCA, simply email sam@cca-glasgow.com and we will arrange free public transport for you and your child.

We are in the process of finalising our October Week activities. Check back here in a few weeks to see what is on offer.
