Weird Weekend | Weird World of Deepfakes (Films)

Sat 31 August — Sun 1 September 2019

A feature-length curated programme of Deepfake clips, created by Ctrl Shift Face and others, playing on a loop throughout Weird Weekend 2019.

Deepfake is a technique for human image synthesis based on artificial intelligence. Recent advances mean anyone with a capable desktop computer can easily create and share convincing videos which wrap anyone's face on to pre-existing footage - whether it's Bill Murray's… or yours.

The dawn of the Deepfake means we're on the threshold of a thrilling, chilling, new, weird age where the lines between truth and fantasy are more blurred than ever. But what will it mean for cinema when we can convincingly recast decades-old movies or casually "reskin" actors' performances?

Ctrl Shift Face and a panel of special guests will discuss the strange possibilities of the Deepfake at the Weird World of the Deepfake panel at 4pm on Saturday 31 August.
