Pity Party Film Club presents a screening of Claudia Weill's underrated 1978 masterpiece Girlfriends as part of their Suitable Women: Films of Female Friendship series. A huge influence on filmmakers such as Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture, HBO's Girls) and Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), Girlfriends focuses on the fraught relationship between two close friends, Susan and Anne, making their way in New York City. Both hilarious and heartfelt in equal measure, Girlfriends dives deep into what it means to create, to succeed and to be a friend.
