Reopening CCA - Answering your Questions

We are excited to welcome you back to CCA or invite you inside if you’ve never visited. We understand that this is a worrying time for everyone, and we want to reassure you of the precautions we are taking, and how you can help us open safely for everyone. Below are some answers to questions you might have about visiting us over the next few weeks:

When does CCA re-open to the public?

From 1 September 2020, our building will re-open, with new opening hours:
Monday-Wednesday, 10am-4pm
Thursday-Saturday, 10am-10pm
Sunday, Closed

In October, we will review these hours and share any changes via our website, social media, email newsletters and via signage around the building.

Can I visit the cafe and shops?

Saramago Cafe Bar is now open, with reduced capacity and a reservation system to allow for social distancing. Please reserve a table in advance by phoning 0141 352 4920. Saramago is open Monday-Wednesday, 10am-4pm; Thursday-Saturday, 10am-10pm; and closed on Sunday. View the current menu.

Welcome Home is open Tuesday & Wednesday, 11am-4pm and Thursday-Saturday, 11am-6pm.

Aye-Aye Books is open Friday & Saturday, 11am-6pm.

Can I see an exhibition?

The first exhibition we will host after reopening is Ross Little - This Is Where The Spirits Tend To Hang Out. This is part of our Intermedia Gallery programme - however, to create a safe and socially-distanced experience, the exhibition will be installed in our main galleries on the ground floor.

The exhibition will be free to visit, but we will be managing visits via an online booking system. Two slots will be available on the hour. Each booking slot will be open to one household or ‘social bubble’, of up to four people. The gallery will be cleaned and aired between each visit.

Will I need to wear a face covering in the building?

Yes please, unless you are exempt. If you need a face covering, we have masks available at our box office for a suggested £1 donation. CCA, cafe and shop staff will also be wearing face coverings in public areas and when moving around the building. If you are eating and drinking in the cafe, please put your mask on when entering, leaving and using the toilets.

Will there be hand sanitiser available?

Yes, we have located hand sanitiser at the entrance in the foyer as you enter and at clearly signed sites throughout the building. Some of these stations are foot-operated pumps, but there are also accessible low-level sanitiser stations. We encourage you to use these as much as you can.

Will I have to leave contact details for contact tracing?

At point of booking an exhibition slot or reserving a table, or if you enter the building without advance booking, we will record your contact details to facilitate the Test and Protect scheme, in line with Scottish Government guidance. This means that you will be contacted if anyone who has visited CCA on the same day tests positive for Covid-19. We will erase all data recorded within 21 days, in line with the Scottish Government’s track and trace policy.

Is there anything else I need to do?

We would invite all visitors to observe 2 metre distancing where possible. Please exercise caution when entering or exiting rooms, and give other visitors space and time to move through the passageways. We have installed floor markings and signage to help you keep your distance. Please catch coughs and sneezes in a tissue and dispose of any tissues into the bin then wash or sanitise hands immediately. Please note that some people may find Covid-19 safety measures more difficult to adhere to, including those with sight loss, autism, learning disabilities, dementia, or other communication or mobility needs.

Are your toilets going to be open?

Our toilets will be open and available for people visiting the building. We have reduced the capacity in some of the toilets in order to maintain social distancing and we have introduced additional regular cleaning throughout the day.

Can I use the lift?

Our lift is available for those who need to use it. We encourage those who do not need to use the lift to take the stairs instead. The lift should only be used by one household group or social bubble at a time, or one visitor with access requirements and their companion. If the lift is used the buttons and handrail should be cleaned after use with the wipes provided and hands should be sanitised before entering.

Will CCA be available for venue hire?

We are opening in very careful stages, and we are talking to our regular events and programme partners about how to bring their activities back to the building. It will take at least several months for us to be able to develop a full and safe programme of activity, and invite new partners to book events. Please note that CCA staff remain partly furloughed and will have reduced capacity to respond to enquiries at the moment.

What happens if a staff member working at CCA becomes ill with Coronavirus?

To reduce risk, we are minimising the number of people who are working in the building, staff will have their temperature checked on entering the building and many of the team will continue to work from home. If a member of staff is suspected of contracting Covid-19, team members who have come into contact with that colleague will self-isolate for 14 days and we will instigate Test and Protect procedures to contact visitors who may have come into contact with them.

What should I do if I experience Coronavirus symptoms?

Please do not visit if you have had any symptoms of Coronavirus within the last 7 days, or if you have had contact in the last 14 days with anybody who has subsequently developed symptoms of Coronavirus. You should stay at home, self-isolate and request a Covid-19 test, in line with Scottish Government guidelines.

How long will these measures be in place?

The current measures we have put in place are in line with Scottish Government guidelines and legislation, and allow us to accommodate and protect our staff, tenants and visitors. We will review our approach regularly, and respond to advice from the Scottish Government as it changes.
