Over the past few years, Acting Up! drama classes participants have produced original and very funny work that has become something of a Christmas treat for the calendar. Jack and Jackie Go Up the Beanstalk is no exception and is a chance for parents and other audience members to support local children in their first endeavours with creative ideas and performance, with some of the children being as young as five years old.
Twenty or so children taking part are the only thing on the stage, wearing costumes they have also come up with themselves. Jack and Jackie Go Up the Beanstalk is an endearing piece of wall-to-wall fun with echoes of the original panto story but, as you will see, with a few twists and turns along the way. A spell is done on the giant for example that turns him into a vegetarian, putting a spanner in the works for his usual delight in eating children. And it’s not a cow that’s for sale either. It’s a gorilla and poisonous frog.
Jack and Jackie Go Up the Beanstalk will be a fun and festive Saturday morning for the whole family - with perhaps a wee treat in the café afterwards.
