Bad Language

We all speak English, but do we understand each other? That’s the question posed by Richard Herring in a brand new comedy panel show for BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Ulster. Scotland’s Des Clarke and Ireland’s Keith Farnan go head-to-head to prove who has the superior command of the English language.

Together with special guests - including Eleanor Tiernan, Jarred Christmas, Mark Nelson, Micky Bartlett, Aisling Bea, Diarmuid Corr, Jo Caulfield, Susan Calman and Jarlath Regan - they compete over five rounds to see who best understands dialect, slang and colloquialisms from Scotland, Ireland and the rest of the English speaking world. Through comedy debate and banter we’ll be celebrating language, inventing new terms for those currently-nameless-but-irritating things. And who knows, you might pick up some surprising facts along the way!

Two shows will be recorded per night over three days – Tue 4, Wed 5 and Fri 7 June – at 7pm and 8.30pm. This event will be seated on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to arrive early to avoid disappointment!

Somerset comedian Richard Herring is well known from solo tours, his double act with Stewart Lee and his radio shows with Andrew Collins. You may recently have caught him in repeats of Never Mind The Buzzcocks or Have I Got News For You, so make sure you don’t miss seeing him host Bad Language.

“Comedian-wise, I think Richard Herring is a god...” – so said Keith Keith Farnan, the Irish lawyer-turned-comedian, in a recent interview. As well as performing all over the world, he’s appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Dave’s One Night Stand.

In charge of the opposing team is equally well-travelled Scottish stand-up and Capitol Radio presenter, Des Clarke. His live appearances include the New York, Adelaide, Dublin and Dubai Comedy Festivals, and he also served as Ant and Dec’s replacement as a presenter on SM:TV.
