Our first breakfast talk of 2018 is by Caroline Bowditch:
From little things big things grow
Back in Australia Caroline dreamed of dancing as a profession. When she moved to the UK in 2002
this started to become a reality. In this artist talk Caroline will talk about her journey into dance, about being a ‘Dance Agent for Change’, share some key milestones and highlight what has helped and hindered her along the way. She will also discuss and show examples of her artistic work.
Glasgow based, but Australian born, performance artist and choreographer Caroline Bowditch describes herself as a performer, maker, teacher, speaker and mosquito buzzing in the ears of the arts industry in the UK and further afield. From April 2008-March 2012, Caroline held the role as Scottish Dance Theatre’s Dance Agent for Change. She is currently Artist in Association with Paragon Music (Glasgow), Tramway Theatre Glasgow and Associate Artist at Dance 4 (Nottingham), who supported the development of ‘Falling in love with Frida’ for which she was awarded a Herald Angel Award at Edinburgh Festival 2014. In 2017, in collaboration with Laura Hook, Caroline developed two new works for family audiences: The Adventures of Snigel and Snigel and Friends. She is currently leading a project for Imaginate, ‘Weren’t you expecting me?’, which explores the lack of disabled and diverse performers in work being made for young audiences. She has worked as an artist consultant with Skånes Dansteater (Sweden), Dundee Rep Theatre (Promoting Equalities Project) and British Council (Unlimited Access). In April 2014 she was appointed as Visiting Professor at Coventry University’s Centre for Dance Research. In July 2018, Caroline will return to Australia and take up the role as Executive Director at Arts Access Victoria.
From 8:30am (until approximately 10am) on 17 January with breakfast included for a thought-provoking start to your day.
