Our first breakfast talk is by Glasgow-based artist Georgia Horgan who makes videos, performances, textiles and texts. Georgia's 2017 exhibition - All Whores are Jacobites (Public Exhibitions, London, 2017) explored women's histories of 'feminised' labour in the gallery's locale. Her research and art practice has led her to 'explore the way in which, across history, confident, independent women who found the means to earn their own income as midwives, weavers or sex workers were systematically shamed, condemned and sometimes burned' [Izabella Scott, Studio International]
Georgia will present a talk that challenges you to think about her research and the relevance for society today - opening a door to think about gender equality and feminism in a different way.
CCA is an organisation with equalities at its heart and a desire to debate contemporary issues in a public setting. Our series of breakfast talks, delivered by artists, makers and thinkers, aims to offer up new perspectives on issues of equality. The series will continue in 2018 with talks from Caroline Bowditch, Dr Laura Guy, and Yon Afro Collective.
