Madrid Was a Party
This event has moved to The Seamore Cinema, 304 Maryhill Road, Glasgow, G20 7YE.
Cinemaattic and Scalarama present a special night showing acclaimed films by Luis Lopez Carrasco El Futoro + Aliens, preceded by a Masterclass and followed by a special DJ Set into the damned bands of La Movida Madrileña (the Madrid Movement) years.
The “Enfant Terrible” of Spanish cinema visits Glasgow for a unique night of cultural subversion and a search for new political narratives of the Spanish Transición (the political transition from Francoism to Democracy).
Cinemaattic keep bringing their most subversive (say favourite) programmes as part of the September Scalarama events. Scalarama is a DIY celebration of cinema taking place every September + championing alternative film culture all year round.
However, what we are presenting this year goes beyond any previous attempt. Bringing one of the most original filmmakers to present his work in a special talk (5.30pm at CCA) showing two absolute gems awarded internationally followed by a special DJ set dedicated to the early 80’s Spanish Synth Wave and Post Punk scene.
5.30PM Masterclass by Luis Lopez Carrasco: Madrid era una Fiesta (Madrid in the Screen)
7.30PM Screening of El Futuro + Aliens
9PM Q&A with director Luis Lopez Carrasco
9.30PM - 10.30 PM “Contra Ola” DJ Set
In the immediate aftermath of the fall of Franco, a new freedom and excitement overtook the Spanish nation, and nowhere could this be scene more clearly than in Madrid. A creative explosion known as La Movida Madrileña displayed a new attitude in music, film, and literature.
