MAJOR!
MAJOR!
Dir. Annalise Ophelian, 90 mins, USA 2016
A documentary exploring the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy – a veteran of the Stonewall Rebellion and a survivor of Attica State Prison, a former sex worker, a community leader and human rights activist.
Miss Major founded the renowned Transgender GenderVariant Intersex Justice Project (TGIJP) that advocates for trans women of colour in and outside of prison, and Digital Desperados are delighted to have both StormMiguel Florez from the TGIJP Leadership Team and Annalise Ophelian, director of Major!, present for a discussion at this screening.
Digital Desperados kindly agreed to be part of CCA's cities programme with this film exploring the life of this hugely important figure in New York City's Stonewall uprising. Our ongoing programme surrodung the idea of the city aims to explore how people use the space and infrastructure of the city, and how the urban landscape acts as a catalyst for subculture, activism and self-organisation.
