Jean Luc Godard - 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her, with introduction from CCA Curator Ainslie Roddick
Continuing CCA's discussion on the idea of the city, 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her (2 ou 3 choses que je sais d’elle), takes as its subject the daily life of Juliette Janson (Marina Vlady), a housewife from the Paris suburbs who turns to sex work as a way of making ends meet. Partially set in the new development of Paris’ outer banlieue regions, or outer ring of suburbs, the film explores the socio-economic conditions of these new towns, which would later notoriously mark the abject failure of assimilationist France to integrate immigrants from its former colonies. Featuring remarkable images of this recently built high-rise environment, this is a filmic essay on modern life following deindustrialisation and the effects of suburbanisation, new towns and white flight.
