Independent event programmers Cry Parrot welcome Oneohtrix Point Never to Glasgow. The show will be the Scottish debut for his impressive new AV show, ahead of his new release, R+7, out soon on Warp Records.
Under the moniker Oneohtrix Point Never, Daniel Lopatin has been crafting his esoteric sound world for over five years now. Part hypnotic and warm, part dystopian and disorientating, his work – taking elements of drone, ambient and experimental music - has manifested in a slew of acclaimed releases, a collaborative LP with Tim Hecker and side projects, including synth-funk outfit Fordan & Lopatin/Games.
Lopatin's debut on Warp contains many familiarities for listeners who have followed the acclaimed electronic music composer’s development over the last five years, however the new record is a major departure from previous work. Lopatin’s experimental inclinations lurk behind the scenes - in the concepts and procedures he adopts to create the tracks - while the music itself comes as close as Lopatin has ever gotten to anything resembling traditional song structure.
R+7 is disruptive and hypnotic in equal measure, and the fun of it lies in trusting Lopatin as he guides you past - and often through - a succession of walls and mirrors.
"Music that gently triggers a series of images and feelings, none of which you can name and all of which seem entirely common." - The New Yorker
