Exploring universal stories of displacement.

The Redistribution of Memory

The Redistribution of Memory by Iranian artist Paria Goodzari is an interdisciplinary project that seamlessly combines durational performance, video, sound and installation. Five golden cages enveloped in intricate barbed wire, housing woven balls meticulously crafted from shredded letters and documents received by the artist during a five-year journey to acquire British citizenship

The accompanying durational performance sheds light on the meticulous creation of each paper ball, emphasising the intricate process of formation, transition, and the harsh realities of migration. Through this work, Goodzari delves into the dehumanisation ingrained in modern society while exploring the diverse spectrum of geopolitical and national developments that shape our interconnected global world.

Installation in the theatre will be free and open to the public from 11:00-18:00.

The Camp

Extracts of the The Camp, a powerful film by Syrian film director, journalist and producer, Humam Husari will be screened, followed by an In Conversation hosted by Commissioning Executive and Cryptic Chair, Shirani Sabaratnam.

The Camp is an independent film project which tells a compelling story of displacement in Syria. The film has been captured over a four-year period and follows the journey of it’s main character as she searches for universal answers; what does home mean to us and what do we do when we lose our home? It is the compelling story of over six million Syrians who have been forcibly displaced as they try to re-assess a sense of home in places they did not choose to live.
