Sun 10 March 2019

Queer Movie Night

Join us for a cozy evening of queer films made by Arab womxn.

Cherien Dabis’ short film Not Another Word depicts a Jordanian woman’s struggle to convince her conservative mother and traditional grandmother that marriage isn’t at all for her.

A Beiruti beauty salon in serves as a microcosm of modern Lebanese society in director Nadine Labaki's critically acclaimed feature film, Caramel. While shop owner Layale struggles with her affair to a married man; stylist Rima cautiously navigates her attraction to a female client; bride-to-be Nisrine fears that her fiancé will find out that she has already lost her virginity; aspiring actress Jamale does everything within her power to reverse the visible effects of aging; and seamstress Rose abandons her own ambitions to care for her elderly mother. With the support of each other in their local salon, the women search for the answers to questions of life, love and happiness.
