Cherien Dabis’ short film Not Another Word depicts a Jordanian woman’s struggle to convince her conservative mother and traditional grandmother that marriage isn’t at all for her.

A Beiruti beauty salon in serves as a microcosm of modern Lebanese society in director Nadine Labaki's critically acclaimed feature film, Caramel. While shop owner Layale struggles with her affair to a married man; stylist Rima cautiously navigates her attraction to a female client; bride-to-be Nisrine fears that her fiancé will find out that she has already lost her virginity; aspiring actress Jamale does everything within her power to reverse the visible effects of aging; and seamstress Rose abandons her own ambitions to care for her elderly mother.
