Document 11: Syrian Conflict Programme

The only dedicated international human rights documentary festival in Scotland returns for its eleventh outing with a host of exciting screenings, panels, workshops, music and events. Taking place at CCA from Fri 18 to Sun 20 October, this year's programme focuses on reflection and tension between the past and present.

Not Anymore: A Story of Revolution
This intense documentary short follows the struggles of Syrian revolutionaries in Aleppo, as experienced by 32-year-old male rebel fighter, Mowya, and a 24-year-old female photojournalist, Nour. Matthew Van Dyke's powerful short immerses the audience through reportage-style filming and the emotional words of two engaging characters whose lives have been turned upside down and torn apart by war.

Death Visited Me and Yet on the Shelf, there was no Coffee
Omar Alkhani's harrowing first-hand account of a summer 2012 siege of Syrian civilians brings to light his anxieties as an activist and how he tries to keep feelings of revenge at bay whilst holding on to the vision of a transitional justice. This short-film reflects on heroism and mortality through conversations with Free Army combatants as well as families and doctors in the area. Please note that this film contains graphic scenes that may disturb some viewers.
