Since I Was Born

Since I Was Born
Dir. Laura Delle Paine, France 2013, 54m, UK Premiere

Dheisheh refugee camp on the West Bank is home to over 13,000 people, who live in just 1.5 square kilometres of land. Eleven year old Tamer is one of them.

Like all the children from the camp, Tamer dreams of liberating his country, and plays at being a member of the resistance. His father, Nader, a former fighter, tries to protect his son from the dangers of life under Israeli occupation. But he also wants to help him fulfill his dream of seeing the sea.

Situated just 40 km away, the Mediterranean is almost inaccessible to most Palestinians. They need special permission to go there, which is virtually impossible to obtain. Nader will do everything he can to make his son’s dream a reality. But will he succeed?

A moving and different look at the realities of occupation.
