Eating Our Words with Anne Pia

Food writing these days is rich, titillating, tantalising and richly textured; it is ultimately thrilling, and it is therapeutic. Especially in challenging times.

In this practical session, we will explore our individual responses to the food we enjoy eating or cooking… how it makes us feel and the potential for personal change.

We will find and write words that make us drool; that best convey that feeling, that joy in taste, colour and presentation. And by sharing our outputs as prompts, by drafting and redrafting, we will work towards finished pieces.

Anne’s poetry and essays have appeared in among others, The Blue Nib, Northwords Now, Poetry Scotland, Lunar Poetry, The Fat Damsel and London’s South Bank Poetry magazine. She has been invited to read at the prestigious Dundee Literary Festival and the Stanza International Poetry Festival. In 2018 she was a guest at the British Institute in Florence and attended the Torino Book Festival in 2019 to showcase her book.

A new writer, having started in 2011, Anne has recently been added to the Scottish Poetry Library’s Guide to Scottish Poets. Anne’s new book Keeping Away The Spiders; Essays on Breaching Barriers was published in November 2020 by Luath Press. Her second poetry collection The Sweetness of Demons was published by Vagabond Voices in April this year, the 200th anniversary of Baudelaire’s birth.
