Cryptic presents Sonica

End of Engines

Thu 10 March — Sun 20 March 2022

A mechanical exhibit, blue and pink, is suspended in the air.

End Of Engines, credit Robbie Thomson.

Robbie Thomson’s new multimedia installation End of Engines is inspired by our growing realisation that we have to stop our dependence on fossil fuels. Robots, deformed car parts and clattering sonic sculptures fifill the CCA Cinema, and wall projections invoke the glistening, eerie, alluring sheen of oil. Above everything, a vast clockwork structure slowly rotates, twitching and glittering, a monstrous combustion engine symbolising
how our reliance on outmoded power sources has led to our current environmental predicament.
