Fiona J. MacLellan The Making of a School

Fiona J. MacLellan - The Making of a School

This is a workshop on the classroom of tomorrow. Learners, teachers and educationalists are invited to join Scottish designer and researcher, Fiona J. MacLellan, to open up ideas of schooling. We shall explore a collection of concepts including a short story, a series of illustrations and prototyped props. All of which speculate on ideas of a more ‘preferable future’ for learning and teaching.

We will be working with the idea of ‘innovation from the edge’. Be that from the perspective of islands and their physical distance from services or that of inner cities and the inequality in service distribution through social distances.

Within the workshop participants will be invited to map their ideas for alternative models of education, reacting to a selection of challenges. In doing so, layering conceptual solutions together and weaving a supporting structure to provide buoyancy to one another’s ideas. These maps shall form a collective vision and add to an emerging research project at a key point of consultation.

This workshop forms part of the research project Transformative Schooling, funded by Glasgow School of Art and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and responds to Daniel Godinez Nivon's work in Forms of Action.
