Florrie James and Emilia Beatriz present Poetry Is Not a Luxury, coinciding with Attention Deficit-Reductionalism in Intermedia Gallery from 17-26 January.
Poetry Is Not a Luxury is an evening of readings against a-politics with invited contributors – Phoebe Amis, Howard Slater, Nicholas James, Karen Barad, Sam Bellacosa, Anna Schneider, Greg Philo and others.
Poetry Is Not a Luxury takes its name from an essay by Audre Lorde: “... poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity of our existence. It forms the quality of the light within which we predicate our hopes and dreams toward survival and change, first made into language, then into idea, then into more tangible action. Poetry is the way we help give name to the nameless so it can be thought.”
