Aya (Kristýna Maléřová) and Temelko (Maximilian Mauff) have been betrothed since childhood. Their first night of love, which they have long dreamt about, is fast approaching. According to ancient tradition, this should be determined by the stars and initiated by their taking a bath together. But just before the eagerly awaited date, the well dries up! When the men in the village are unable to sort out the problem, the women take drastic action and go on strike: no water, no sex!
A sell-out success at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008, Veit Helmer’s third feature film is placed on the edge of reality, in a fairytale laced with magic and imagination. Absurdistan - is it a place, a state of mind, or just a feeling? Whatever it is, it’s a romantic, surreal and poetic film with a timeless charm.
“A delightful fable sans dialogue … too enjoyable to go unappreciated offshore” (Variety)
Please note that this film will be screened from a 35mm print.
