The Moustache is French author Emmanuel Carrère’s first feature film and is also an adaptation of his own novel. Acclaimed actors Vincent Lindon and Emmanuelle Devos star in this intriguing and existential drama about the nature of identity.

Marc (Vincent Lindon), a middle-aged Parisian, asks his wife (Emmanuelle Devos) how she would feel if he shaved off his moustache. She dismisses the idea, as for the many years they've been married, she's never known him without it. He decides to spontaneously shave it off anyway, however when he next sees his wife, she doesn't notice the difference, and neither do their friends nor his co-workers. Soon Marc’s frustration about the fact that no one seems to have noticed this change turns into anger. His wife and friends are shocked; they have no idea what is he talking about and insist that he’s never had a moustache. In fact, could he have started to imagine other things as well?

Dir. Emmanuel Carrère, France 2005, 87 mins, French with English Subtitles. With: Vincent Lindon, Emmanuelle Devos, Mathieu Amalric, Hippolyte Girardot
