CANCELLED Free Association: Speculative Fiction

Thu 23 April 2020

Cca speculative2 natsumi 800 4e1u

We regret this event has been cancelled.

Speculative Fiction is a participatory workshop developed by artist Natsumi Sakamoto and curator Rachel Grant through common urgencies of critical feminist perspectives and collective practice within arts practices.

Feminist and speculative fiction writer Ursula Le Guin's ‘The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction’ (1986) is used as a critical frame to unpick themes of feminist politics, storytelling and collective practice. The session will involve an introduction to this ongoing research and Le Guin's text.

Participants will also be invited to share their own urgencies and questions for feminism in contemporary society, to create a collective fiction in real time and explore the possibility of collective practice as an act of solidarity.

Free Association is a connected, critical and supportive space for arts practice and inquiry for artists, writers, makers and educators from a diversity of fields and artforms. We run a monthly meeting and use existing public resources to share, make and discuss, looking to take advantage of and actively contribute to open access and commons based models of culture, learning and working together.
