Frame by Frame
During the Taliban rule in Afghanistan it was a crime to take photographs. However, in the years since 2001, photography has been an essential part of documenting the changing identity of a war-torn country and its people. Frame by Frame follows four photojournalists who risk their lives to uphold the values of a free press: Najibullah Musafer is considered the ‘father of Afghan photography’, Wakil Kohsar concentrates on those at the margins of society, Pulitzer Prize-winner Massoud Hossaini puts himself in the firing line on a daily basis, whilst his wife Farzana Wahidy defies traditionalists by making Afghan women the focus of her work. A profound and moving documentary on the need to bear witness.
