GFF Mimosas

There’s a sense of familiarity running through Mimosas, thanks in part to aspects of the filmmaking being incorporated into Ben Rivers’ film-within-a-film The Sky Trembles and the Earth Is Afraid and the Two Eyes Are Not Brothers (GFF16). However, Oliver Laxe’s second feature is a wholly original and hypnotic journey through faith in the Middle East. A minimalist ‘Eastern Western’ following a caravan transporting a dead sheik back to his medieval city, Mimosas won the Grand Prize at Cannes’ Semaine de la Critique.
