GFF: The Official Story (La historia oficial)

Luis Puenzo’s The Official Story was a landmark film in Argentinean cinema, winning an Oscar and a Best Actress prize at Cannes for Norma Aleandro, who plays history teacher Alicia. Smart, middle-class and shielded from the horrors that have gripped her country, Alicia has her world shattered at a high school reunion. An old friend tells her that the children of those who disappeared during the military dictatorship were frequently snatched from their parents and sold for adoption. Alicia starts to question the history of her own adopted daughter and how much she can trust her well-connected husband. A personal awakening resonates deeply in this subtle, heartbreaking drama.
