Batman (1989)
Before Leto, before Ledger, even before Hamill, there was Nicholson. The original modern screen incarnation of The Joker butts up against Michael Keaton's Batman in the Tim Burton film which revitalised the Caped Crusader on film and beyond. Eerie and moody, with visual echoes of the comic books and a soundtrack from Prince, Batman stylishly charts the rise of two psychologically damaged enemies on opposite sides of the law and paved the way for the current dominance of comics at the Box Office.
