Dayveon (Devin Blackmon) is just 13-years-old and coming to terms with the death of his older brother during a long hot summer in Arkansas. No longer a boy but not quite a man, Dayveon is drawn to a local gang and their promise of entry into an adult world. The reality is more mundane as the gang members smoke weed, hang out and wish for a better life than the options on offer to them as young black men in the desolate South. A melancholy coming of age drama, marking a striking directorial debut for Amman Abbasi, with the backing of executive producer David Gordon Green.
