Glasgow Film Festival Lots of Kids, a Monkey and a Castle (Muchos hijos, un mono y un castillo)

It’s all about family in Spanish actor-turned-director Gustavo Salmerón’s boisterous, freewheeling documentary. As a newlywed, Salmerón’s mother Julita made three wishes: she wanted lots of kids, a monkey and a castle. She got them all – six children, a monkey, and a castle purchased with a handy inheritance. The irrepressible Julita holds court as she recalls the wild extremes of a long, eventful life and a tendency to never knowingly dispose of anything. Somewhere, she may even have two of her grandmother’s vertebrae. And you thought your relatives were eccentric…
