Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra GIObabies Creative Music Workshop

GIO have a special interest in exploring making music with young children from 0-5 years. Young children are natural improvisers and are happy to experiment with sound and music.

We believe everybody is musical and want to give an experience where everyone has creative input as equals to make new music.

We use graphic scores, conduction and free playing to faciliate collaboration. Graphic scores use a variety of symbols to represent musical events; for example, coloured dots. Conduction is a series of hand signs to shape improvisation and it has the benefit of allowing the children genuine creative control. Our mini conductionists love the chance to show everyone what sounds to make and when.

Free playing is totally free – anything can and does happen!
