Glasgow Open Dance School Afro Fusion Workshop with Nandi Bhebhe

Sun 15 March 2015

Glasgow Open Dance School

Nandi trained primarily in contemporary dance and has also studied jazz, hip hop and commercial dance, whilst extensively exploring traditional and contemporary African dance as a member of Vocab dance company.

The workshop will bring together Nandi’s traditional background, training, and professional experiences of various dance styles allowing them to blend throughout the class. With a focus on moving and sharing, we will explore rhythm, musicality, openness and fluidity throughout the body and most importantly enjoyment for all!

As well as performing, Nandi loves regularly teaching across the UK and is an avid choreographer, gaining notable praise for recent work, including a Best Choreography nomination at the UK VMAs in 2012.

Nandi’s live performance work includes The Biennial Dance festival in Bangalore; Episodes of Blackness as company member of Vocab Dance company; 5,6,7,8 at the Royal Court Theatre London, Bill T. Jones; Fela! as Queen Naa Lamiley in its London premier; International tour in the US, and on Broadway, New York and as one of the featured dancers in Sidi Larbi and Joe Wrights A Season in the Congo at the Young Vic, London.

This class is suitable for all levels.

Programmed as part of Romany Dear's exhibition, Dancing in a circle is a reminder that we are part of the whole.
