Winner of the 1983 Tyne Award, the rarely screened The Cause of Ireland tells the history of the ‘troubles’ in the North of Ireland through the voices of the people who lived through them. Its primary concern is to examine divisions within the working class, the causes and effects of these divisions, and to evaluate the various solutions being put forward. Screened by Channel Four in The Eleventh Hour series after 6 minutes were cut by the IBA.
“The Cause of Ireland establishes the central political issue in the Six Counties with startling clarity. The great merit of this excellent film is that it lets the people of the North of Ireland speak for themselves about the history of the last fifteen years.” The News Line
