In 1967 Alex, a teacher with the US peacecorps, travels to Iran, meets Ali and falls in love. After ten years spent together in Iran the political regime forces Alex to return to the US. Over the next thirty-five years, the two men continue to exchange loving letters until deciding to reunite in Istanbul. The nephew of Alex, director Malachi Leopold, accompanies him and documents their reunion.
