GLITCH Film Festival Jason and Shirley - with Jack Waters present for Q&A

Sat 25 March 2017

Jason and Shirley

A rebellious response to Portrait of Jason, this film recreates the narrative of the 1967 original twelve hour shoot from an imagined standpoint of Jason himself. Tavia Nyong'o wrote in the Guardian: 'For generations of queer men of color who have been horrified by Holliday’s on-screen fate, Jason and Shirley offers a reinvention of a historical moment that sought to consign them to the roles of mascots and scapegoats.'

An incredibly layered, dextrous and intelligent film that plays with the sophistication of subtle jazz, this is straight outta New York’s vibrant New Queer Vanguard of Brooklyn. The New Yorker hailed it as 'one of this year’s finest offerings...ingeniously conceived and acted.' Shot in Super-VHS it has a specific colouration and atmosphere that lends itself to the multiple layering of observation across time periods.

We are delighted to welcome Jack Waters - who both stars as Jason in Jason and Shirley and is one of its three scriptwriters - for an in-person Q&A.
