GLITCH Film Festival Tchindas

This documentary, that plays like a feature, captures life on the lovely island of São Vicente as the year revolves around the passionate creation of carnival, when the slow-paced atmosphere of the island transforms into a frenzied hustle and bustle as thousands flock to the streets. Key to making this joyous fiesta happen are tchindas, the term used by locals to name queer Cape Verdeans after Tchinda, one of most beloved women in Cape Verde came out as a transgender person in the local newspaper in 1998, with tchindas being held in love and respect in their community.
