The film - spanning over three decades - reveals what it felt like to live in former East Germany, through the eyes of three East-German photographers - Sibylle Bergemann, Helga Paris and Gundula Schulze Eldowy., revealing an unusually tender and feminine view of an exceptionally beautiful but grey reality.
Helga Paris, born in 1938, holds an outstanding position in German photography. Whilst making an extraordinary contribution to European photography, she and her contemporaries were almost completely unknown in Britain.
Her exhibition Helga Paris: Fotografie at Street Level Photoworks, Glasgow which accompanies the film, provides a unique insight into her photographic work.
With an introduction by Dr. Deborah Lewer, British Art Historian and Senior Lecturer, University of Glasgow.
