Bircan is a documentary filmmaker based between Scotland and Turkey.

In 2019, she directed her debut creative documentary, 'My Name is Anik,' through Bridging the Gap program at the Scottish Documentary Institute. The film has been selected for multiple BAFTA and Oscar-Qualifying festivals.

This beautiful short follows Bircan as she has decided to learn Kurdish, her once-forbidden mothertongue, with all the words her grandmother has forgotten and all the stories that have remained unspoken.

The GRAMNet/Bemis film series is honoured to welcome Bircan to the CCA for a post-screening discussion, exploring themes of heritage, language, family, and connection.
