The HIGH-NORTH programme will consist of artist residencies, talks, workshops and exhibitions in the cities of Tromsø, Gateshead and Glasgow, involving artists Arild Tveito, Liliane Lijn, Aileen Campbell, Luke Fowler, Kjersti Andvig and Mai Hofstad Gunnes.
Oslo-based artist Arild Tveito – a founding member of the artists’ group Institutt for degenerert kunst – has been selected for the 5-month UK based residency in 2013. Tveito will work towards events and talks in collaboration with CCA, Glasgow Sculpture Studios and Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in 2013. Tveito will be based in CCA's artist flat and have studio accomodation at GSS.
HIGH-NORTH is an ambitious three-year artists’ residency initiative linking the cities of Tromsø (Norway), Gateshead/Newcastle (England) and Glasgow (Scotland). The project is coordinated by NABROAD (Norwegian Artists Abroad), and supported by Arts Council Norway, and The Royal Norwegian Embassy London. Working with a range of high profile partners, each of whom brings a unique understanding of their local context, HIGH-NORTH represents a rare opportunity to substantially strengthen both cross-border dialogue and trans-national artistic practice.
The selected artists are practitioners who are established in their field, with track records of producing work of quality, integrity, and ambition. Their presence and expertise will continue to enrich HIGH-NORTH’s networks between individuals, organisations, and institutions. Supporting the potential for communication and co-operation around a host of models - from building grass-roots connections to establishing long term institutional collaborations – HIGH-NORTH continually invests in a diverse, and ever-expanding, shared artistic economy.
