Timespan: Artists talk with Tam Joseph

Invisible Knowledge presents an artist talk with Tam Joseph (born. 1947 Dominica, lives and works London) in collaboration with Glasgow Museums. Taking place in Gallery 4 at GoMA, the event takes its title from a large-scale painted work of the artist’s which entered the collection of Glasgow Museums in 1992, as a gift from the Contemporary Art Society. This work will act as a point-of-departure for an overview of Joseph’s practice since the late-60’s, working across painting and sculpture primarily. Discussion will encompass the socio-political commentary at the centre of seminal works such as ‘UK School Report’ (1980-82), the representation and symbolism of water in his work, and conclude with exploring current directions in his practice.

Joseph has exhibited as part of solo and group show in Scotland, including ‘From Two Worlds,’ Fruitmarket Gallery; ‘Shock to the System’ at Maclaurin Art Gallery; ‘Blast from the Past’ Glasgow Art Museum; ‘Learning to Walk,’ Smith Art Gallery and Museum, Stirling; and ‘Where do I end and you begin?’ at the City Art Centre Edinburgh, as part of Edinburgh Art Festival. The event will be introduced by Alberta Whittle and Tiffany Boyle, and be followed by a Q&A discussion.

The main entrance to GoMA is accessible via ramp access; Gallery 4 accessible via lift.
