The Jewish Film Club returns with this docu-comedy, with a hint of tragedy; a family story about one individual's attempt to find his own path and independence, even when those around him think differently.

The film presents the lives and true faces of Judea and Samaria’s outpost residents, in a way the media will never show them. From a personal-familial perspective, The story combines subtle humour with searing pain, and describes the complex relations between Jew and Arab; the settlers and the state; and between the founding generation of the settlements and the children that grew up there

"My cousin Ya'acov's secret ambition is to go unnoticed. He dreams of becoming a monk, a recluse. One summer, towards the end of his high school days, he fulfils his monastic ambitions. He drops out of school and becomes a shepherd on a forsaken farm in southern Mount Hebron. The mystery and magic that he discovers in the mountains aren't exactly greeted with enthusiasm by his family. This rebellious son's high jinks draw them into family quarrels that expose fresh, surprising points of view on themes such as love, war, and the beard my cousin has decided to grow. Grandma, for example, has turned out to be an admirer of Joan of Arc, although she supports draft-dodging. Uncle Shmulik sees quarrelling as just another form of love. My brother Yehuda thinks that life gives you the most when you expect the least."

The Jewish Film Club has been running at CCA since 2006, bringing films of Jewish interest to Glasgow and promoting them within the wider arts community. Presenting around eight to ten screenings a year, the programme features a diverse selection of documentary, drama features and shorts, with a concentration on films produced within the last twenty years. A project of Jewish Arts 1990, the Jewish Film Club is part of a larger arts programme aimed at encouraging and advancing arts of Jewish interest.
