NEW VENUE Jim Crumley at Weegie Wednesday
Wed 19 September 2018
This event has moved to The Project Cafe, 134 Renfrew Street, Glasgow, G3 6ST.
Weegie Wednesday began in January 2007 in Glasgow to provide an opportunity for writers, publishers, comic book writers and artists, poets, screen writers, drama writers, booksellers, librarians, TV and film people, journalists, marketing people, creative writing students and anyone else with an interest to get together socially once a month to talk about books, writing and publishing and all points related.
September’s guest is Jim Crumley who is “The best nature writer working in Britain today” – The Los Angeles Times
Jim left school at 17 to join DC Thomson in his home town of Dundee. Over the next 20 years he worked for various Scottish newspapers. When he was 18 he was inspired by Gavin Maxwell’s, Ring of Bright Water and since then, 25 years on, his own books have been published at an average of one a year.
“I am a Scottish nature writer, living and working in my own country where it gets harder and harder to win a hearing for nature or for the rights of the land itself. A vigorous body of nature writing should be a sanctuary and a mouthpiece for nature’s voice.” – Jim Crumley
The spirit of Weegie Wednesday is to promote networking, welcome new people, and get people meeting. There is a real mix of people attending – long term members and new people. Some drop in twice or once a year, and some come every month – we are always happy to welcome anyone with an interest in writing and the creative industries.
