John Maxwell Hobbs is a musician and composer who releases music under the name Cinema Volta. Although most of his work is solo, he has played with a variety of musicians, including Rhys Chatham, David Gamper of the Deep Listening Band, DJ David Azarch of the Mudd Club, and on one late, drunken evening, Cheeta Chrome of the Dead Boys. As a producer, he has worked with DJ Spooky, Glen Branca, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Diamanda Galas, David Hykes, every member of the New York Dolls, and more. He is known for the Daily Ambience project in which he recorded and released a new piece of music every day for a year.

And Flights of Angels Sing Thee To Thy Rest is an extended duration performance of ambient solo guitar pieces. They are very simple pieces, each in an open tuning, and all of them played into a huge reverb. The combination of the overtones created by the open, ringing strings and the dense acoustics of the massive chamber creates surprising spectral effects - the sounds of distant voices, flutes, and other instruments seem to materialise like a hallucination or something half-remembered from a dream.

Due to the extended duration of this performance, audience members are encouraged to bring cushions and mats to sit and lie on the floor, and are free to come and go throughout the evening.
